San Fernando Valley - More Than What Meets the Eye

Urbanized San Fernando Valley, so well-known as just "The Valley, " is located in the northwestern part of Los Angeles City, California, USA. Most recognized for its large range of movie production studios, San Fernando Valley is one of the world's largest low-budget movie production locations.

The Valley is also home to numerous parks, both large and small. Los Angele's largest municipal park, Griffith Park, is located at the southeastern section of the valley, just linking to the eastern end of the Hollywood Hills. Two massive recreational parks are located between Sepulveda Dam and Hansen Dam, which are flood control basins in Los Angeles. Furthermore, O'Melveny Park over Granada Hills and Chatsworth Park towards the northwest valley provide more outdoor recreational and leisure space.

San Fernando Valley is undoubtedly a part of Los Angeles, but a visitor might be surprised with its laid-back, almost exclusively suburban development style. Most of the time, traveling is done via automobile. Interstate 405, US Route 101, State Route 118 and Interstate 5 run across The Valley, easily connecting the area with LA.

The Valley enjoys the same weather conditions as in the Los Angeles Basin, which is often dry and sunny. Summer months are considerably hotter and Winter brings in chillier weather, in comparison to the Los Angeles Basin. The temperature resting in the nineties is common during Summer, with it often reaching into the hundreds during end July-early August.

As mentioned earlier, San Fernando Valley is home to several motion picture, television and recording production studios. These include NBC-Universal, ABC, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Brothers and CBS Studio Center. Before these studios became known as part of the valley, the major economic players were from the aerospace technology industry, including Lockheed, Marquardt and Rocketdyne. These companies have moved on to better regulated markets and cheaper labor environments, but the studios remain to this day to bring some glitz and glamor to The Valley.

If you take the time to trail along the Sunset Strip, spare some time to drop in at The Valley too. You can stay overnight at one of the nearby Pasadena hotels, such as the Langham Hotel Pasadena.

Is there anything related to films.. I work for media and those would interest me? Is there a separate hollywood studio? Is it possible to take a trip to San Diego the same morning of my arrival see things and come back the same night to LA?

Will 8 days be enough for a Las Vegas/Grand Canyon/Los Angeles trip in Dec?
I plan to visit Las Vegas/Grand Canyon/Los Angeles in Dec. Do they usually have anything special going in those cities on Xmas Day, Xmas Eve and Boxing Day? Will 8 days be enough for those 3 places and how many days do you suggest we spend on each place? Should we rent a car for those 8 days, or just a few days while in certain areas? I realize that renting a car is cheaper than hiring a taxi, but how about parking? Is parking expensive in Las Vegas and LA and is it hard to find parking spot? Is it possible to rent a car in LA and return it in Las Vegas or vice versa? What is the best mode of transportation from LA to Las Vegas? If we were to drive, how long would it take? It is mentioned that parking in Las Vegas is free. Is it only on the strip? How about off-strip and downtown? And is it hard to get a decent parking space in downtown?
